Best Full-Length Mirrors 2023 - Forbes Vetted

If you’ve ever done an outfit check before rushing out the door, you know the importance of a great mirror. The best full-length mirrors do more than allow you to see your whole body from head to toe, though. They’re also decorative additions that instantly add more light and can even make a space feel larger than it actually is. Whether you’re seeking an ornate filigree option to lean against the wall or something to hang over the door in a dorm room, a sleek full-sized mirror can be as beneficial to a room’s décor as an eye-catching area rug or vibrant indoor plants.

Some of the best full-length mirrors we've discovered come from Anthropologie, Crate & Barrel and ... [+] Walmart. Bathroom Mirror

“Full-length mirrors are great for bringing in additional light and making a space look bigger,” says interior designer Shelby Van Daley of Daley Home. “We use them in bedrooms, living rooms, closets and more.” If you’ve got your eye on a particular mirror, start by considering its size, style and mounting options to ensure it’s the right fit for your space. And if you’re planning to put the mirror in the bathroom, it’s crucial to select one that’s suited for damp spaces—you don’t want something that will warp or rust from moisture and humidity.

Ahead, here are the very best full-length mirrors to brighten and elevate your space and to help for those last-minute outfit checks before you head out the door.

Dimensions: 30 x 1.75 x 72 inches | Weight: 82 pounds | Material: Metal

For its classic and sophisticated design that adds sophistication to any space, this full-length mirror from West Elm is our top pick overall. Not only is it durable, thanks to a metal frame that makes it safe to keep in the bathroom, but the mirror also gives you options. It comes in three sizes—14 x 72 inches, 30 x 72 inches and 39 x 78 inches—and a variety of finishes including brass, dark bronze and brushed nickel finish.

If you opt for the smallest version, you can either mount the mirror to the wall or lean it up against the wall; for those who prefer the larger options, it’s best to lean the mirror against the wall and secure it with the included anti-tip hardware. Can’t decide which version is right? While the layout of your space is a big factor, we think the medium-sized option is the best for most people.

Dimensions: 13.5 x 39.5 inches | Weight: Not listed | Materials: Chipboard and plastic

If you’re looking for an inexpensive mirror for a child’s room or a dorm room, this option from Mainstays is as affordable as they come. While it’s smaller than most full-length mirrors, its slight size comes with some perks. Notably, because of its light weight (it has a plastic frame and chipboard backing), you’re able to hang the mirror either vertically or horizontally. It even comes with mounting hardware, as well as predrilled holes for both orientations.

Dimensions: 21 x 2 x 65 inches | Weight: 40 pounds | Material: Metal

The Upland Oaks Full-Length Body Mirror is one thoughtfully designed piece. To start, it’s crafted with shatter-resistant glass so you don’t have to worry about it breaking during transport. It also comes with mounting hardware so you can hang it on the wall or lean it on the floor, as well as also felt pads to prevent scuffing. What we love most about it, though, is its modern look. Featuring rounded corners and a recessed design, this oversized mirror can pop in any room, whether you choose the black, silver or gold finish. And while the recessed frame offers a decidedly contemporary appearance, the mirror is also available with a more basic slim frame.

Dimensions: 18 x 1.5 x 70.8 inches | Weight: Not listed | Material: Hinoki cypress wood

If you love the look of natural wood, the Hinoki Floor Mirror is a worthwhile splurge that can instantly elevate your space. Featuring a hinoki cypress wood frame, this contemporary full-length mirror from The Citizenry is crafted by Fair Trade artisans in Japan—each one takes a total of 10 days to make. And thanks to the light natural finish on the wood, the frame gets increasingly dark (and beautiful) with age.

The standard version of this mirror is around 6 feet fall, though it’s also available in a smaller version that’s 14.5 inches wide and 59 inches tall (just under 5 feet). One thing worth noting: If you choose to return the mirror, you have to pay a $65 restocking fee. That said, it’s hard to imagine purchasing this mirror, admiring its beautiful construction in person and then returning it.

Dimensions: 32 x 71.75 inches | Weight: 88 pounds | Materials: Resin and iron

You’d be hard-pressed to find a mirror that’s more universally beloved than Anthropologie’s iconic Gleaming Primrose Mirror. This ornate, vintage-inspired design is a favorite among interior designers and social media influences, thanks to its beautiful handcrafted filigree frame that makes it a focal point in any room.

The mirror comes in two full-length sizes—the 6-foot version is roughly 72 x 32 inches while the oversized 7-foot model is 84 x 64 inches—and four finishes including gold, black, white and silver. Because of its large size and heavy weight, the mirror shouldn't be hung on the wall—only leaned against it. (Yes, anti-tip hardware for extra security is included.)

Dimensions: 18 x 2.4 x 64 inches | Weight: Not listed | Material: Wood or metal

Don’t want to drill holes in your wall to mount or anchor a mirror? The Edge Standing Mirror solves that problem with its built-in stand. Available in five different frame materials, including both metal and wood options, this slim mirror with contemporary rounded edges is ideal for tucking into the corner of a smaller room. It’s even suitable for use in damp locations if you opt for a metal frame.

Dimensions: 18 x 14.5 x 77 inches | Weight: 63.25 pounds | Materials: Medium-density fiberboard and iron

Pottery Barn’s Temple Street Storage Mirror does double duty: Not only is it an extra-tall full-length mirror, but it also has built-in shelves and two hooks, making it a useful storage space for your bedroom or home gym. Supported by an iron frame with medium-density fiberboards components, the shelves each have a weight capacity of 10 pounds—perfect for holding light dumbbells, linens or accessories. Another thoughtful touch: The unit is mounted on adjustable levelers for extra stability. Have uneven floors? No problem.

Dimensions: 14.6 x 3.9 x 47.2 inches | Weight: 12.6 pounds | Material: Medium-density fiberboard

Because dorm rooms aren’t known for being spacious, it’s wise to invest in multi-functional, space-saving decor pieces—like, for example, the best-selling Songmics Mirror. Behind the tall mirror lies a spacious storage compartment with hooks for necklaces and slots for rings, as well as several shelves and two small drawers. There’s even built-in LED lights that illuminates the compartment when it’s opened.

Available in nine colors (including natural wood finishes), this mirror can be mounted on a wall or hung over the back of a door using height-adjustable hangers. Thanks to the included protective pads, you don’t have to worry about the piece leaving behind unsightly scratches. The only potential downside? The mirror is fairly short for a full-size model, though still plenty big for most college students.

Dimensions: 21.5 x 0.75 x 71 inches | Weight: 30 pounds | Material: Medium-density fiberboard

Many over-the-door mirrors are quite small, which can make it hard to see your whole outfit in them. The Laurel Foundry Modern Farmhouse Gillock Mirror, meanwhile, is actually full-length, measuring 71 inches high. Made from MDF, this mirror comes in an impressive selection of finishes, including flat colors, metallics, and natural wood options. It’s even suitable for use in damp locations like bathrooms, making it a worthwhile purchase for any room of the house. In fact, if you ever tire of the over-the-door design, no problem—the mirror can also be wall-mounted in a vertical or horizontal orientation.

Ready to bring a full-size mirror into your space? As you shop, keep these factors in mind to help make the selection process seamless.

Full-length mirrors are typically long and skinny but the actual dimensions of these mirrors can vary quite significantly. Most mirrors are at least 48 inches tall, though high-end options can be anywhere between 65 and 72 inches in height. The taller the mirror, the more of your body you’re be able to see at once.

Width is important, too. While budget-friendly options like the Mainstays Full-Length Mirror are often on the skinny side (with a width between 12 and 14 inches), most quality products measure at least 18 inches wide. If you want a mirror that takes up more space in your room, you may want to look for something that’s 30 inches or wider.

While mirrors themselves are almost always made from glass, their frames can be constructed from a variety of different materials. High-quality mirrors generally have wooden or metal frames, which maintain their shape and provide long-lasting durability. Because wooden and metal are heavy materials, though, these mirrors can weigh 100 pounds or more, so proper wall mounting will need to be considered if these are meant to hang in a space.

If you’re shopping for a budget-friendly or lightweight mirror, look into options with frames made of plastic or engineered wood. Just keep in mind that these materials aren’t as durable and can warp or break more easily over time.

There are a few ways that you can display full-length mirrors in your home. Some options like the Modern & Contemporary Full-Length Mirror can be mounted on the wall; others, such as the Gleaming Primrose Mirror, are designed to rest on the floor and lean back against the wall at a slight angle, often due to heaviness. For safety, floor mirrors need to be anchored to the wall using hardware to prevent it from tipping over. If you don’t want to put holes in your wall, consider looking into freestanding mirrors like the Edge Standing Mirror. This style of mirror has a built-in stand that holds it upright so there’s no complicated installation required.

In general, experts recommend looking for a full-length mirror that’s at least 6 feet tall, which is an appropriate height for most people and will allow you to see your whole body. “The minimum length should be 72 inches, but we typically source mirrors for our clients that are 80 to 84 inches,” explains Van Daley. “Size is important, but you also have to consider the options available that match the aesthetic of the room.”

There may be times where a smaller full-length mirror is much better-suited for your space. For instance, a 6-foot mirror will likely be too big for a small bathroom or even college dorm room—in these instances, a 4- or 5-foot mirror may be more appropriate.

It can be tricky to tell if a mirror is high-quality, especially if you’re shopping online. “Start with a reputable vendor,” recommends Van Daley. “Once you’ve found something you like, double check the size and the weight. Quality mirrors, especially larger floor mirrors, will typically weigh 100+ pounds!”

In general, cheap mirrors are typically low quality. If the glass is uneven or the frame is misshaped at all, the mirror will likely have a distorted image, making your proportions seem wonky. These types of mirrors may work fine for purely decorative purposes, but if you’re planning to use the mirror to evaluate outfits or put on makeup, it’s worth spending a little extra for a higher quality product.

The best position for a full-length mirror will depend on your space and how you plan to use it. If the room is smaller, you can save space by wall-mounting a mirror or even hanging one on the back of a door.

However, floor mirrors offer a more elevated look to your home. “Generally, we prefer to rest mirrors on the floor,” says Van Daley. “This not only looks great, but it’s also practical because we’re usually sourcing high-quality mirrors that are quite heavy for mounting to the wall.”
